CeraVe Blemish Control Cleanser takes the opposite approach: it treats the cause of blemishes with clinically proven actives while simultaneously protecting and rebuilding the skin barrier that aggressive acne treatments so often damage. 2% Salicylic Acid — the gold-standard BHA for acne-prone skin. At the 2% maximum concentration recognised by the US FDA for over-the-counter acne treatment, salicylic acid penetrates deep into the pore lining to dissolve oil-based blockages, exfoliate dead skin cells, reduce inflammation, and prevent the conditions that cause blackheads, whiteheads, and inflammatory acne in the first place. Unlike surface-level cleansers, this works where acne actually starts.

Gluconolactone (PHA) — the gentler exfoliant working in the background. Polyhydroxy Acids have larger molecules than AHAs, meaning they exfoliate the skin's surface without penetrating as deeply — making them ideal for sensitive, acne-prone skin that can't tolerate aggressive acids. Gluconolactone adds a layer of gentle resurfacing that Salicylic Acid can't accomplish alone, leaving skin smoother and less textured without additional irritation.

Hectorite Clay absorbs oil in real time. This purifying mineral clay binds to and absorbs excess sebum directly during cleansing — reducing shine, refining pore appearance, and removing the oily film that traps dead skin cells against the skin's surface and feeds acne-causing bacteria.

Niacinamide and 3 Ceramides protect what the acids clear. As BHA and PHA work to unclog, Niacinamide regulates ongoing oil production, soothes post-acne redness, and fades hyperpigmentation. Ceramides NP, AP, and EOP, delivered via CeraVe's MVE Technology, replenish the barrier lipids that can be depleted by acid-based cleansing — preventing the dryness, tightness, and sensitivity that cause most people to abandon effective acne treatments prematurely.
